LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A group of local athletes made history with their success in gymnastics, and we could look to the future of Team USA.

Five of the best gymnasts in the valley with Salcianu Elite Gymnastics are heading to the national championships this weekend in Arizona. They are the largest group in Nevada to compete at this level and they hope to shine at the competition.

Their coach, Tammy Salcianu, said she had high hopes for the team.

“For them, it’s just about going out and doing your best, and, you know, most of these girls are already committed to college,” Salcianu said. “We have four athletes this year, and some aspire to enter elite gymnastics potentially in the future.”

The band said they expect a good time this weekend.

“Just for fun and going for four and then hopefully everyone wins,” Trista Goodman said.

“I’m super excited for Arizona. I have never participated in national championships before, so this is my first,” added Tirzah Wise. “I’m super excited to go there with my teammates, it’s going to be awesome.”

They told 8 News Now that they are the best team they have ever had and they are also looking forward to the future and where gymnastics might take them.

“The Olympics are a possibility. I really hope to get there one day, and also in college in the future,” said Genesis Pebenito. “I’m 15, so I can’t commit yet, but I’m definitely planning college.”

Sienna Robinson also said she had specific college and athletic hopes in mind.

“I’ve made a verbal commitment to Stanford University, and that’s my goal, to compete for Stanford,” Robinson said.
